Dillon Junior Fiddlers

The Dillon Junior Fiddlers have been learning and performing old-time fiddle music for the past 40 years.  Founded in 1983, the group has mainly been under the musical direction of Sandy James, assisted by his wife, Jeannie James.  Young people in the group range from 6 to 18 years old and are dedicated to practicing weekly to learn new music.  Parents supply management of bookings, travel arrangements, costumes, practice incentives and finances, as well as hosting the annual Dillon Fiddle Contest.

Performance highlights for members include local, statewide, national appearances and an international tour in Kumamoto Prefecture at the International Youth Music Festival. The young musicians have entertained in New York, Washington DC and Jamestown, Virginia.  Recent years have curtailed travel for the group with the Covid pandemic, but practice resumed last year and culminated in a show in Virginia City, Montana, “Going Down the Trail” featuring traditional western music, a show that was repeated at the Depot Theater in Dillon this fall.  The fiddlers are excited to be included in the Twin Bridges Bluegrass Festival where they will showcase the wide variety of historic music they love to play.
